Abstract

Fusion energy research presents some of the most demanding challenges in modern power electronics, requiring exceptional levels of precision, dynamic response, reliability, and system integration to achieve effective plasma control. EEI is contributing to this field through the development of advanced power supply technologies designed to meet the stringent requirements of next-generation fusion facilities.

Drawing on EEI's experience in developing high-performance SiC-based power supply platforms for plasma control applications, this presentation will provide an executive and system-level perspective on the evolution of industrial power electronics toward specialized solutions for fusion research. The discussion will focus not only on technological advancements, but also on the broader engineering challenges involved in delivering reliable, scalable, and maintainable power conversion systems for large-scale scientific infrastructures.

A key focus of the presentation will be the role of collaboration between research institutions and industry, the adoption of wide-bandgap semiconductor technologies, and the practical lessons gained from transitioning advanced power supply concepts from development to deployment. Through EEI's involvement in these projects, the presentation will highlight how industrial expertise and innovation in power electronics can accelerate progress in fusion research and contribute to the development of future sustainable energy technologies.
