Abstract

The Japan-EU joint JT-60SA project is underway, aiming for the early realization of fusion energy. JT-60SA is a large superconducting tokamak device expected to deliver world-class performance; plasma operations began in 2023, and full-scale physics experiments will be conducted from 2026. In this seminar, we will first summarize the performance requirements demanded of fusion energy sources. Next, we will discuss the physical issues that need to be resolved to meet those requirements. Furthermore, the main research items and ultimate goals of the JT-60SA project to address these challenges are presented.
