  • Improving accuracy of divertor simulation codes based on the primary data is necessary to realize a DEMO reactor, being an important step toward the commercialization of fusion power generation. This can be achieved using a divertor simulator that can generate steady-state high-density plasma equivalent to a DEMO reactor divertor.
  • We have currently been constructing a pilot device (Pilot GAMMA PDX-SC) to simulate a DEMO divertor based on the knowledge gained from GAMMA 10/PDX. The first plasma was successfully achieved in October 2022.
  • We have currently been developing a new steady-state and high-density plasma source that uses (i) cascade arc and (ii) helicon discharges.
  • Plasma heating can be achieved using a plasma confinement region with a simple mirror configuration using two superconducting (SC) coils up to 1.5 T.
