Abstract

Dicio Conflatio is an interdisciplinary research initiative exploring innovative pathways toward controlled nuclear fusion through open magnetic confinement systems. The project focuses on mirror-based configurations combined with advanced radiofrequency techniques, particularly electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH), to investigate novel confinement regimes. A central objective is the experimental validation of enhanced axial confinement via RF-induced ponderomotive effects, offering a potentially transformative alternative to classical loss mechanisms.

The program follows a staged development strategy, progressing from compact experimental devices to high-field configurations capable of approaching fusion-relevant conditions. This incremental approach reduces technical risk while enabling continuous scientific validation. In parallel, Dicio Conflatio examines hybrid fusion–fission concepts, where fusion-driven neutron sources could support subcritical nuclear systems.

By combining fundamental plasma physics, advanced diagnostics, and scalable engineering, the project aims to bridge the gap between exploratory research and practical energy systems. Dicio Conflatio thus contributes to the global effort to achieve sustainable, flexible, and high-impact fusion technologies.
